Corporate Profile

Red meat sector businesses forming the production chain from farmgate to the consumer's plate produce over a million tonnes of beef, pork and lamb annually. The market is worth some £1500 million annually to Scotland's GDP and means that the Scotland sector is a major contributor to Scotland's food and drinks industry.
QMS is the representative body for the Scottish industry. Corporate documents related to the work that we do, such as our Annual Report and Business Plan, can be accessed by scrolling down to the bottom of this page.
QMS Assurance Schemes
The Scottish red meat industry has one of the highest levels of assurance membership in Europe. Around 90% of cattle, 90% of sheep and virtually all pigs are currently assured.
The Quality Meat Scotland Assurance Scheme covers the production chain from the farm gate to the plate through through a variety of Schemes.
All members are independently assessed annually by the SFQC to make sure they are achieving set production standards.
QMS Schemes have been highly rated by IGD, the food industry’s think tank and further independent research revealed that consumer awareness and understanding of QMS’s Assurance Scheme was estimated to be 80%, much higher than for other food consumer schemes, including the Red Tractor.
