Nithsdale 6th Monitor Farm Meeting
There is a packed line up of speakers at the Nithsdale Monitor Farm meeting on Thursday 7 December. The meeting will begin at Castlehill Farm, Durisdeer where Robert Osborne will give an insight into the management of the 250 breeding cows that he farms. The group will then move to nearby Durisdeer Hall for lunch, following which monitor farmer Andrew Marchant will give an update from Clonhie.Also at the meeting, Alisdair Padkin from Nithsdale vets will give an overview of some of the cattle health problems seen at this time of the year, and SAC Consulting Beef and Sheep Specialist Gavin Hill will then discuss the challenges of the 2017 summer and its implications for cow body condition scores and forage analyses. Finally, farmer Will Case, who has developed his traditional livestock farm in Cumbria to create a stronger and more sustainable business which now includes a dairy enterprise, will lead a discussion on diversification opportunities for farmers.
