About SFQC

SFQC is the independent certification body specialising in the inspection and certification of food production and processing. SFQC was established in March 1995 to meet demand for the provision of credible, independent certification services within the Scottish food, farm and fisheries sector. In 1997 SFQC was the first food and farming certification body to be awarded EN45011 status, the European standard for food certification systems. Management and administration functions are concentrated in Edinburgh with a network of field and assessment staff operating throughout Scotland.
SFQC is responsible for certifying and administering the following Specially Selected Scotch Quality Assurance Schemes:
Assessment staff conduct rigorous audits of members farms/premises/units to assess how well they comply with the standards of the respective Schemes. Where standards are not complied with, non-compliances are noted and in many cases members are required to rectify them before they can be certified and thus attain assured status. Once they have become assured then members can use the Specially Selected Scotch mark/logo.
SFQC is also responsible for managing the following schemes, amongst others:
SFQC is fully independent of the promotional bodies and owners of the various schemes that it inspects and certifies. Its activities are overseen by a Certification Council that includes consumer, producer and independent representation and is structured to ensure that no single interest predominates. Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) are responsible for advising SFQC on all issues relating to the delivery of Certification services in their respective sectors.
