Pigs

Virtually all pigs produced by the Scottish red meat industry are covered by the QMS Assurance Scheme. The Scottish pig industry enjoys a worldwide reputation for high standards of production. At a time when other countries are continuing to suffer major pig health problems, the Scottish industry has worked together to make significant improvements in this area.
Being a member of the Specially Selected Farm Assurance Scheme allows businesses to widen market options, many major buyers will only consider sourcing stock which has Assured status.
Standards contained in the Pig Assurance Scheme are developed for the industry by the industry and any changes are made after consultation. They take into account animal welfare issues which research shows strongly influence the consumer's choice when shopping for meat.
All Assured units are visited on a frequent basis by qualified vets as well as the indepdent inspectors employed by SFQC (Scottish Food Quality Certification), the independent company employed by QMS, to make sure companies are meeting the standards required for membership of the Scheme.
