As Accountable Officer for QMS, I am responsible to the Scottish Government for safeguarding all funds falling within the stewardship of the organisation.

Executive Assistant to Chairman and CEO

As Executive Assistant, I provide support to the Chairman and Chief Executive across key business issues. I provide administrative support for the Board and assist with the development of QMS' policies and procedures.

Carol McLaren

Head of Communications

My role includes responsibility for managing the delivery of all external and internal communications for QMS. This includes PR campaigns, issues management and corporate communications with the aim of sending out a positive message about the Scottish red meat industry, its products and QMS as an organisation.

Claire Higgs

Communications and Events Manager

My role entails managing communications about QMS, the red meat industry and its products to the public, levy payers and other stakeholders through the dissemination of key messages via new and traditional media and at key events.

Jennifer Robertson

Health and Education Coordinator

As a registered dietitian, I am responsible for many of the nutrition and health related issues concerning QMS and the red meat industry. Much of my time is spent visiting schools, educating pupils about eating red meat as part of a healthy balanced diet. I also work with the teams in QMS on projects with a nutrition or health focus.

Jenni Henderson

Health and Education Executive

As a qualified nutritionist, my role in QMS is to provide up-to-date information on current health topics regarding the consumption of red meat. Part of my job is also educating children and young people about the role of nutrition in health and the importance of including red meat as part of a healthy balanced diet.

Head of Industry Development

I am responsible for the development and delivery of programmes of activity to improve the quality and efficiency of the primary production of red meat and its supply chain in Scotland.

Allan Ward

Pig Specialist

My primary role is to help Scottish pig producers to improve efficiency. I manage the Pig Business Network which covers Pig Monitor Farms, Pig Satellite Groups and provision of Agrosoft WinPig production software. I also have responsibility for all QMS pig health projects.

I am responsible for the effective delivery of grassroots activities aimed at improving the production efficiency and output of beef and lamb for the Scottish red meat processing industry.

Head of Economics Services

I lead the economics team working on policy impact analysis and providing market information and other data to help businesses plan for the future. In particular we monitor developments in CAP, world trade, and climate change policies as well as looking at future supply patterns and providing enterprise information from which producers can benchmark their businesses.

Iain Macdonald

Senior Economics Analyst

Each week I collate industry data on prices and supply for the agricultural media. It is my job to update the market prices and graphs on the website and provide other members of the QMS team with the data they need for presentations and meetings. I also analyse the global economic conditions which have an influence on the operating environment of the Scottish red meat sector.

Laurent Vernet

Head of Marketing

I've been Head of Marketing since April 2006, and my key area of responsibility is the delivery of a focused marketing strategy for Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb and Specially Selected Pork, which is vital to ensure brand awareness and build markets.

I am currently responsible for the UK marketing of Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb. In addition, I am involved in the consumer research purchased and conducted by QMS. I have held Chartered Marketer status since September 2006.

I am responsible for all food service activity taking place within QMS. I also manage the everyday running of The Scotch Beef Club, promoting beef club members throughout Scotland and The UK.

Brands Integrity Manager

I am responsible for contract management and operation of the six QMS assurance schemes in our whole chain assurance programme and for leading the schemes’ strategic development. My role also involves developing the brands licensing scheme and monitoring and protecting brands integrity.

Huub Schoemaker

Export Development Manager - Benelux

Huub comes from a family of butchers, and has years of marketing experience with Nestle and Food from Britain. He is the main point of contact for Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg and is responsible for overseeing and implementing all QMS activities there. The part-funded, fixed-term post is supported by the Scottish Government.

 

Jakob True

Export Development Manager - Nordic countries

Jakob has worked for major marketing accounts within Sweden and Denmark, latterly with the Green Seed Group. He is the main point of contact in the Nordic countries and is responsible for overseeing and implementing all QMS activities there. The part-funded, fixed-term post is supported by the Scottish Government.

 

Peter Toholt

Export Development Manager - Germany

Peter has considerable experience of the European red meat market, having previously worked as product manager for SOPEXA responsible for marketing, sales promotion and communication for meat and meat products. Peter's activities are split between SDI and QMS to develop the German food and drink market. The part-funded, fixed-term post is supported by the Scottish Government.
