Ean Stewart farms Challochmun Farm near Glenluce in WIgtownshire in partnership with his mother, Sheila. The farm includes 125 hectares of owned land with a further (80-120 hectares) rented on a seasonal basis. The land rises from close to sea level to 60 metres. Over the past 10 years the whole farm has been reseeded.
The farm has 100 spring calving sucklers (Belgian Blue, Limousin and Angus crosses) all put to Limousin bull. Historically the farm also finished approximately 200head of purchased store cattle too, although these numbers are being cut back.
There are 570 mule ewes, lambing indoors in February. All stock is sold finished off the farm, and has historically been sold live through the ring.
The farm is in an excellent grass growing area, situated close to the coast, and will have the longest growing season of all the host farms. It also has the highest liveweight output per hectare of all the host farms.
