EU Exit Information
This site aims to provide updates to address specific questions raised by Scottish red meat processors at our regular working group meetings on EU Exit. These meetings include representatives from Scottish Government, Food Standards Scotland (FSS), UK Export Certification Partnership (UKECP) and Scottish Association of Meat Wholesalers (SAMW).
Negotiations on the UK’s future relationship with the EU are, however, still taking place, with several important issues unresolved.
If these talks do not result in agreement, the UK will default to trading with the EU under so-called WTO rules. This will mean both sides applying tariffs to imports from the other in accordance with their respective external tariff schedules.
But, with or without an agreement, many significant changes will take place from 1 January 2021, notably in relation to customs and border procedures.
Separate provisions are likely to apply to trade with Northern Ireland.
