Publication is a Class Act for South Ayrshire Primary School Pupils

Pupils from Tarbolton Primary School, near Mauchline, South Ayrshire have celebrated the launch of the updated “Meat the Facts” booklet.

Produced by Quality Meat Scotland (QMS), the highly popular children’s publication aims to help improve the understanding of children about red meat (beef, lamb and pork).

As well as learning all about the Scottish red meat industry from the bright and colourful publication, the South Ayrshire P5, 6 and 7 pupils also took part in a QMS cookery demonstration.

The interactive session saw the pupils prepare healthy Scotch Beef steak and crunchy slaw sliders whilst also learning about farming, local production and the role of red meat in a healthy balanced diet.

Jennifer Robertson, QMS Health and Education Coordinator said that it is vital that children are aware of the facts which underpin the Scottish red meat industry especially around health and the environment.

“Like our cookery demonstrations, Meat the Facts is made up of simple, easily absorbed, accurate information which covers all aspects of the production of red meat in Scotland,” said Mrs Robertson.

“Containing a wide range of interesting stats and facts, the pocket-sized booklet is part of a suite of health and education activities QMS undertakes to encourage awareness of the importance of a healthy, balanced diet and a good understanding of where food comes from.”

To receive free copies of the booklet please contact QMS on 0131 510 7920 or email info@qmscotland.co.uk. You can also download the publication from the QMS website wwwqmscotland.co.uk.
