Top Auctioneer Takes on Farmer and Chef in Culinary Showdown at Taste of Grampian

An auctioneer is set to take on a local farmer and an award-winning chef in a culinary showdown at this weekend’s Taste of Grampian.

Aberdeen & Northern Marts auctioneer, Colin Slessor - star of the hit BBC series “The Mart” - has been brushing up on his cooking skills in preparation for two lively cook-offs tomorrow, Saturday 2nd at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie.

At 2pm in ring 3 Colin will be up against a local culinary hero, when he takes on Scotland’s “Surf and Turf” Chef of the Year 2017, Graham Mitchell of the Cock and Bull, Balmedie in Aberdeenshire.

The pair will be tasked to create a dish which combines two top ingredients from Scotland’s exceptional larder –  Specially Selected Pork and seafood from Scotland, an innovative twist on traditional Surf & Turf.

The competition is expected to attract a large crowd of supporters’ ring-side to cheer on the pair who will be given a mystery bag of ingredients, including a cut of Specially Selected Pork, sourced from John Davidson Butchers, and some Scottish Seafood, sourced from Aberdeenshire’s Granite City Fish.

The culinary prowess of the duo will be commentated on throughout their demonstration kitchen stint by STV presenter Rachel Stewart and the winner will be presented with a special prize.

Colin Slessor can also be seen in action earlier in the day in a Wham Bam Lamb cook-off with local farmer Jimmy Dick in ring 2 at 12.45. The pair will be challenged to create a dish using Scotch Lamb PGI and mystery ingredients.

Both events are expected to be very popular, so grab your tickets, free of charge on the door.
